Will using Chauvet Elan (animation) and Chauvet COLORstrip (wash) lighting work well together for dances?
Want to use both of these lights for weddings and small bar gigs. I've heard the Vue's are good but are too active for weddings.
It should work well together, although I'm not sure exactly how much overall coverage the Colorstrip gives, I know the Elan's coverage area is limited. The Elan is a great looking effect, but it's lack of coverage can be problematic if your trying to fill med to large areas with good dance lighting. You might try using it with something like a Double Derby or Triple Derby instead (or even as a third light in that set). Good question...lighting is tough to pick out if you don't know what to look for or you can't see a live demo. A little advice: if you have a local lighting dealer (within an hour or so of you), pay a little extra (no more than $20 more per light) to buy it from him. If he's good, knowledgable, and provides good service (before and after the sale) it will be well worth it to you. When you try a light out at your gig and you hate it, or it breaks within a month (or maybe just has a problem you don't know how to fix), you'll thank yourself for having some local help rather than an internet ghost. Now, don't go overboard and pay him extravagantly, and certainly keep him honest by CHECKING internet prices, but don't constantly ask him to meet or beat internet prices...if he does it, he'll be out of business eventually. Now, don't get me wrong, if your sure of exactly what you're looking for, and your guy can't come close on price (or occassionally match it) then by all means make an internet purchase from time to time. But I'll bet your local guy would be willing to throw in some freebies with many purchases to earn and keep your loyalty. By the way, I'm not even a dealer! I'm just a DJ and a business man who values supporting other local small business men. GOOD LUCK! One more thing...as far as LED lighting goes, I LOVE the Chauvet J-Five!!! It looks fantastic and has very good coverage for any gig, but it's light weight and compact size is perfect for mobile gigging. Don't let this little light fool you, it packs a ton of bang for the buck! It'll be money well spent no matter where you get it and your crowds will love you for it. Hell, you could use 2 in one show if you had a really large coverage area, like a school gym. See ya.
